With the Sea as its central theme, the festival once again proposes a vast programme of films, workshops and other activities for children, young people and families, in partnership with the FILMar project, operated by the Cinemateca Portuguesa – Museum of Cinema, with the support of the EEAGrants 2020-2024 programme. With the goal of digitilizing and disseminating the national film heritage, the FILMar project has been promoting, since 2020, the rediscovery and reinscription of titles of the most different genres, exemplifying how the sea was structuring to the history of cinema produced in Portugal.

The collaboration with IndieJúnior will allow the presentation of ten titles in restored and digitalized copies of short films of fiction, documentary and animation, institutionally commissioned or with recreational, informative or advertising purposes, made between 1929 and 1956, where the relations of the region with the sea, the city of Oporto and its coastal zone are explored. In all of them, an attempt was made to underline the way in which these archive films expose a view of childhood or, based on this, comment on society and how it has been altered.

In a parallel work carried out by the festival with the OSMOPE school, two of the 10 films will be presented with sound produced in a workshop with students from the institution. Besides the cinema sessions, this partnership will also provide, to the students of the Inês de Castro Secondary School, from Vila Nova de Gaia, a visit to ANIM – National Archive of Moving Pictures, a specialized department of the Portuguese Cinemateca, and where the FILMar laboratory is located, where they will be able to contact with the preservation and digitalization process of films that they will work on in a school context and until the festival, as well as an accredited training session, destined to the preparation and contextualization for teachers to take place on the 9th of November in Casa Comum – Rectory of University of Porto, in partnership with the National Arts Plan. This training session aims to provide teachers with pedagogical tools for a more adequate contextualisation of films produced in specific contexts and with specific purposes, in the historical framework of the country and of the history of Portuguese cinema itself.
