We’re bringing a lot of magic to Batalha, with two feature films. On the one hand, we’re going to travel back in time to the Magical Land of Oz, and on the other, we’re bringing an animated preview led by a ghost cat.

As usual, we always invite a person with a significant role in society to choose the movie that most marked their childhood for the special session “MY FIRST MOVIE”. This time we have invited the Vice-Rector of the University of Porto, Fátima Vieira, who has chosen the must-see movie “The Wizard of Oz”, the story from which the musical “Wicked”, recently adapted into a movie, was also born. It will be a magical afternoon spent at Batalha where our guest will share her memories of this movie and how important it was to her!
*Synopsis*
When a nasty neighbor, Almira Gulch, tries to have her dog put to sleep, Dorothy Gale, who lives with her aunt and uncle in Kansas, decides to run away with her dog Toto. A tornado appears and carries her to the magical land of Oz. Wishing to return home, she decides to travel to the city of Oz where a great wizard lives. On her way there, she meets a scarecrow who needs a brain, a tin man who wants a heart, and a cowardly lion who desperately needs courage. They all hope the Wizard of Oz will help them, before the Wicked Witch of the West catches up with them.
ANZU GHOST CAT

A film produced between France and Japan, it tells the eccentric story of the ghost cat Anzu, who is responsible for looking after Karin. For fans of Studio Ghibli, this is a not-to-be-missed preview, which has already played at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.

Karin, de 11 anos, vê-se abandonada pelo pai numa pequena cidade japonesa, onde vive o seu avô, um monge. O avô pede a Anzu, o seu gato fantasma jovial e prestável, embora bastante caprichoso, para tomar conta dela. Quando as suas personalidades espirituosas se cruzam, as faíscas voam – mas talvez só no início.
